I am a full-time artist and have worked in various challenging creative roles including art tutor for The Department of Corrections as well as completing various commissions over the last 20 years including a recent sculptural installation at the Waikato University.
In my last ‘nine to five’ job I was employed by the Waikato Museum for five years as a leader in the exhibition team which was a great learning curve. I was able to meet artists producing a wide range of work and also learnt various new construction techniques and exhibition skills.
I have always enjoyed paint applied by various means and painting large scale outdoors for the physicality and the transformational aspect.
Although an old-fashioned notion, I like to ensure my work is going to last through good preparation. This is perhaps due to my early years spent working for a Signwriter during the era of the brush before technology took over that industry.
I continue to work on various painting projects, sculpture and other design briefs usually aimed at activating public space and making some of the more un-attractive and tagging prone areas more enjoyable, surprising and dynamic.
I am based in Hamilton, New Zealand with my wife Liz who is very supportive and our two young sons.
